Hier in Amerika ist es üblich, den Weihnachtsbaum schon Anfang Dezember aufzustellen. Also sind Vida und ich letztes Wochenende losgezogen, um unseren ersten Weihnachtsbaum zu kaufen. Damit war die Shopping-Tour aber noch nicht zu ende. Wir mussten natürlich auch Lichterkette, Baumständer und Ornamente erwerben. Dazu kam dann noch ein “tree-skirt” (wörtlich: Baum Rock), der hier traditionell unter den Baum kommt. Ursprünglich schützte er wohl den Teppich vor Nadeln und Hartz, aber inzwischen hat er auch eine modische Funktion. Genug der Worte, hier ist das Ergebnis:

Rechts neben dem Baum hängen die sogenannten “stocking stuffers” (die zu großen Socken). Die werden im Laufe der Adventszeit mit kleinere Geschenke (Süßigkeiten, richtigen Socken, usw.) gefüllt. Alle Geschenke, die da nicht reinpassen, kommen natürlich unter den Baum.
